Boarding Frequently Asked Questions

Q: When I drop my dog off for boarding overnight, should I bring food?

A: Yes. We recommend that you bring your own food when you drop off your dog for boarding. We can provide food (we serve Canidae Chicken and Rice), but dogs are often stressed during boarding and serving their regular food helps to ensure that they do not suffer any digestive distress.

Q: When I drop my dog off for boarding overnight, should I bring any toys or bedding?

A: Yes. We want your dog to be comfortable at Lucky Dog, so please feel free to bring any of your dog's favorite toys or bedding, which we will keep with your dog in his or her private kennel. If your dog is not familiar with boarding away from home, we recommend that you bring a T-shirt that you've slept in to help your dog stay relaxed at night.

Q: Do you take dogs for walks during the day?

A: No. However, we do try to take out dogs who are boarding with us for a long period of time.

Q: Where do the dogs go to the bathroom?

A: We are an indoor environment, so the dogs eliminate on the concrete floor. We clean up any messes immediately after they occur. Also, we have grates in the floor so we are able to deep clean the facility every night by power washing with KennelSol (a powerful dog-safe kennel cleaner).

Q: How do you handle feeding the dogs?

A: We kennel all the dogs at feeding time. We feed breakfast and dinner to the dogs in our care for boarding.

Q: How do you manage conflicts between dogs?

A: We immediately kennel any dogs who get into conflicts (aka give them a "time out"), then calm down the pack with music and distractions, and then we'll reintroduce the kenneled dogs at the appropriate time. We require a free trial day prior to accepting a dog for daycare or boarding. During that trial day, we observe the dog's behavior to determine whether the dog will adapt well to our indoor environment. We do not accept dogs that show signs of extreme separation anxiety, aggression toward other dogs, or aggression toward people. In some cases, we may need to reject a dog after several more visits or after a marked behavioral change.
